Small Business Servers
Please read through this information first, then click the link at the bottom to go to the configurator.

There are many small businesses that have been struggling along on peer-to-peer networks without the benefit of a dedicated server. Frequently, the software that they're using may be proprietary (specific to the industry), and subject to constant upgrades. As we all know, it seems that each new version of a program requires ever more hardware power.

The workstation acting as the server becomes ever slower, and the network errors become ever more frequent. The employees are complaining, productivity is down, and the Business Owner must find a solution. The fact is, though, that many small businesses cannot afford the kind of money it takes to buy a server from the "Big Boys". We know, we're also a small business.:-)

If your company has between five and fifty or so employees, you need a solution that isn't going to run to the tens of thousands of dollars. But, you also need a solution that will be robust enough to do the job, and scalable enough to handle some growth. This is where CompuCheap Small Business Servers come in; filling that gap between that tired old Windows 95 workstation doing double-duty, and the $10,000 Workgroup, or $50,000 Enterprise server from the Big Boys.

In the custom configurator you will find multiple options, starting at single CPU, single hard drive. Dual CPU is available up to 1Ghz, and dual drive is available up to 60GB. We can also setup software RAID. In addition, there are quite a few other options to choose from.

When configuring your server, keep in mind both your current workgroup size, as well as any near-term growth that you anticipate. Consider also the system requirements for the software and applications that you'll be running. Buying a little more then you need today, will generally pay dividends tomorrow.

For example: If you are on the small end of the scale (five employees), and anticipate remaining at that level for a while, the basic server will be more then enough, and will carry you in to the future even allowing for a small amount of growth. The high end of the scale, you'd want to be looking at dual processors, more RAM and more storage capacity.

If, while weighing the options and trying to decide the configuration for your server you have questions, or need help, feel free to eMail us, and we'll get back to you right away. Or, if you prefer a nice, human voice:-), just give us a call at 253.852.8210.

Our Small Business Servers are, as noted above, suitable for small workgroups consisting of between five and fifty stations. If your company is larger then that, or are growing very rapidly, you really should consider a more substantial option from one of the bigger system integrators.

Because the server will have to be configured for your workstations - user accounts assigned, permissions setup, subnet established, etc., you should have someone within your company or available locally, who is knowledgeable in that area. If you are in the Kent, Washington State area, we can do that for you at additional cost.

Each unit is torture tested across our network, including DSL and internet connectivity, and goes through double the burn-in period of a desktop system (96 hours versus 48 hours). Because of the additional testing and burn-in, please allow 10 working days between time of order, and time of shipping.

The server is built with Windows 2000 Professional, and one of the upgrade options is Windows 2000 Server. This is very important: Win2K Pro has a 10 concurrent connection limit. If your workgroup consists of more then 10 workstations, or you anticipate growing above that level in the near future, please select the Server option as your operating system.

Okay! Let's build my server!
