CleanCIH.exe

The CIH Virus, or Chernobyl, as the press has dubbed it, is one of the nastiest suckers around. It activates on the 26th of the month and there are three varieties. CleanCIH is the most effective killer I've found and it's only 18k in size! Boot off of a clean floppy and run this from the command prompt.

Final Reality DLL files

A very common problem with Final Reality is that it seems to be very sensitive to version for one single DLL file. If this file gets replaced by another piece of software, FR will suddenly stop working and you get an error message related to the DLL. This zip file contains the correct versions for both Win95B and Win98. Just unzip and copy to your Windows/System folder.

Microsoft USB supplement

Versions of Windows 95 from OSR2.1 on, have the USB supplement on the CD under Other/USB. Windows 98 automatically installs it if you have USB ports enabled in the BIOS. However, if you happen to be running OSR2.0, you need to download and install the supplement yourself; so, here it is. This file will not work for Windows 95a, there is no supplement for this version.

FileCopy

This is a fabulous little utility from Ontrack that used to come on disks with new hard drives. I've used it many times for setting up new drives. Transfers everything on the drive; works with any Operating System. Just install your new drive as a slave to the old. Partition and format it, and run filecopy from Start/Run in Windows. Please view the readme on the disk for more details.

Diags

While no software based hardware testing utility is going to be 100% reliable and accurate, this small piece of freeware comes as close as some of the commercial products. A good addition to your diagnostics toolkit. The memory tester included is a bit weak, so TestMem (next cell) is also made available from the same author.

AMD Win 95 patch

Microsoft Windows 95 has a software timing loop error that manifests itself in AMD K6 processors at 350Mhz and above. This update fixes the problem on machines running Windows 95B (OSR2). There is NO patch for 95a, so this will NOT work if that's what you're running. Windows 98 does not have this problem.
